Tata Semiconductor fab nears critical phase
Tata Electronics has reaffirmed that its major projects remain firmly on track.
Tata Electronics has confirmed that KC Ang has stepped down as President and Head of Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing, signalling a leadership transition at a pivotal stage in the company’s semiconductor ambitions. Ang departed the role in December 2025, citing personal and family reasons.
With more than 30 years of experience in the semiconductor sector, Ang joined Tata Electronics in April 2025 to lead its foundry operations. His appointment was widely viewed as a strategic move to strengthen the company’s global positioning, particularly as India intensifies efforts to establish a robust domestic semiconductor ecosystem.
Before joining Tata, Ang held senior leadership roles at GlobalFoundries, where he spent over 15 years, including positions as President for Asia and Chairman for China. His expertise played a key role in shaping Tata’s early progress in semiconductor manufacturing.
Despite the leadership change, Tata Electronics has reaffirmed that its major projects remain firmly on track. These include a ₹91,000 crore semiconductor fabrication facility in Gujarat and a ₹27,000 crore assembly and testing plant in Assam, both of which are expected to begin production later this year.
The company emphasised that it retains a strong and experienced leadership team capable of maintaining momentum across its operations. Industry analysts note that while such transitions can present short-term challenges, they are not uncommon during the development phase of large-scale semiconductor facilities.
As Tata Electronics continues to advance its investments, the appointment of a successor with deep technical and operational expertise will be critical to sustaining progress and supporting India’s long-term ambitions in global chip manufacturing.
