Tata Electronics and ASML Announce Strategic Partnership
ASML will provide its advanced lithography systems and associated solutions to support the establishment and ramp-up of Tata Electronics’ new fab
Tata Electronics and ASML have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating the development of India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and supporting the launch of the country’s first commercial 300mm semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat.
Under the partnership, ASML will provide its advanced lithography systems and associated solutions to support the establishment and ramp-up of Tata Electronics’ new fab. The collaboration is also expected to strengthen local talent development, build lithography-focused technical capabilities, and enhance long-term supply chain resilience within India’s emerging semiconductor sector.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in the growing strategic technology relationship between India and the Netherlands, particularly in critical sectors such as semiconductor manufacturing.
Tata Electronics said the partnership will play a key role in ensuring efficient and reliable operations at the Dholera facility, which is being developed with a planned investment of approximately US$11 billion. The fab is expected to manufacture semiconductors for automotive, mobile, artificial intelligence and other high-growth applications for global markets.
The companies will also work together on research and development initiatives to help establish the infrastructure required for the long-term success of semiconductor manufacturing in India. Given the central role lithography plays in chip production, the collaboration will focus heavily on building advanced technical expertise and engineering capabilities locally.
Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, said the partnership combines Tata Electronics’ manufacturing ambitions with ASML’s global leadership in lithography technology.
“ASML’s expertise in advanced lithography solutions will support the timely ramp-up of our Dholera fab, strengthen supply chain resilience for global customers, and contribute to local talent and ecosystem development,” he said.
ASML President and CEO Christophe Fouquet said India’s expanding semiconductor sector presents significant long-term opportunities.
“We look forward to working closely with Tata Electronics and contributing our technology expertise to help support India’s semiconductor ambitions,” he said.
Tata Electronics is also collaborating with global partners including Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to access a broad range of semiconductor technologies spanning 28nm to 110nm process nodes.
Construction of the Dholera facility is progressing, with Tata Electronics continuing to build partnerships across the semiconductor value chain, including equipment suppliers, technology providers and materials companies.
Alongside infrastructure development, the companies highlighted the importance of building a strong domestic talent pipeline to support India’s long-term semiconductor ambitions. Tata Electronics and ASML plan to expand training and skill development initiatives to help prepare the next generation of semiconductor engineers and specialists.
