Daewoo E&C Secures 868.6 Billion-Won Yongin Semiconductor Cluster Contract
Daewoo E&C Wins 868.6 Billion-Won Yongin Semiconductor Project
Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) has secured a major contract for the development of the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster National Industrial Complex, reinforcing its presence in South Korea’s large-scale public infrastructure sector.
The company said on Sept. 29 that a consortium led by Daewoo E&C was selected as the winning bidder for Construction Work Zone 1 of the project, commissioned by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). The consortium received 310.8 points in the project plan evaluation conducted under the Construction Management at Risk (CMR) method.
Daewoo E&C leads the consortium alongside Namkwang Construction, Jungheung Construction and Samho Construction. The total contract is valued at 868.6 billion won, or approximately $639.1 million, with Daewoo E&C holding a 48% stake worth 416.9 billion won.
The project covers approximately 3.45 million square meters across Idong-eup and Namsa-eup in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The area represents about 44% of the planned Yongin Semiconductor National Industrial Complex and includes the proposed site of Samsung Electronics’ first semiconductor fabrication plant within the complex.
As part of the development, the consortium will focus on building key infrastructure necessary for the industrial complex, including roads, water supply facilities and sewage systems. Construction is expected to begin within the year.
The contract adds to Daewoo E&C’s track record of working with LH on major public development projects. Over the past three years, the company has completed seven private-participation public housing projects commissioned by LH and has also gained experience through large-scale public-private developments such as the Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town.
Daewoo E&C has also participated in LH-led urban redevelopment initiatives, including the Seongnam Sujin District 1 redevelopment and the Cheonho A1-1 District public redevelopment project. Its broader infrastructure portfolio includes major national projects such as the Gadeokdo New Airport site development and the Hongcheon Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plant.
A Daewoo E&C representative said the latest contract reflects the company’s civil engineering capabilities and its experience collaborating with LH. The company said it plans to prioritize safety and quality management while working closely with LH and other relevant agencies to ensure the semiconductor complex proceeds as planned.
The Yongin development forms part of efforts to expand infrastructure supporting South Korea’s semiconductor industry. Through its involvement in the project, Daewoo E&C is seeking to strengthen its position in the public construction market while contributing to the development of a major national semiconductor hub.
