Hansung Cleantech Secures 36.8 Billion Wastewater Treatment Contract for SK Hynix's Cheongju P&T7 Project
Hansung Cleantech, a South Korean specialist in industrial water treatment and ultrapure water EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction), has secured a major wastewater treatment contract for SK Hynix's Cheongju P&T7 semiconductor project, valued at approximately ₩36.8 billion ($26.3 million).
The company announced on August 19 that it had received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from SK Hynix for the WWT (wastewater treatment) system mechanical Package 2 works at the Cheongju P&T7 facility. The related regulatory filing was submitted on August 18.
The project includes approximately 30.7 billion ($21.9 million) for factory-fabricated wastewater treatment equipment and an additional 6.2 billion ($4.4 million) for on-site installation works. Construction is scheduled to run from August 2026 through February 2028.
Wastewater treatment systems play a critical role in semiconductor manufacturing, ensuring the safe and reliable treatment of process wastewater while supporting environmental compliance and operational stability. As semiconductor manufacturers expand production capacity, investment in supporting infrastructure such as water supply, ultrapure water, and wastewater treatment facilities continues to increase.
The contract highlights the growing importance of industrial water treatment infrastructure amid rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI) applications and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips. South Korean semiconductor producers, including SK Hynix, are accelerating capacity expansion to meet this demand, driving parallel investment in essential utility systems.
Hansung Cleantech has built a strong track record in the semiconductor sector through its involvement in major projects such as Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus and the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster. The company has recently secured several semiconductor-related contracts, including ultrapure water EPC projects for advanced chip manufacturing facilities.
According to a company representative, the latest LOI reflects renewed confidence in Hansung Cleantech's execution capabilities at one of South Korea's key semiconductor production hubs. The company plans to focus on successful delivery of ongoing projects while pursuing additional opportunities tied to future semiconductor investments.
By continuing to win projects in major semiconductor clusters such as Yongin and Cheongju, Hansung Cleantech is strengthening its position in the advanced industrial water treatment market. Leveraging expertise across ultrapure water, wastewater treatment, and water reuse systems, the company is expanding its portfolio of semiconductor-sector references and reinforcing its role as a leading domestic provider of industrial water infrastructure solutions.
