Linde to Invest $1 Billion in Arizona to Support Semiconductor Manufacturing Expansion
Linde has secured a new long-term agreement to supply ultra-high-purity industrial gases to one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers, supporting a major expansion of semiconductor production in Phoenix, Arizona.
As part of the agreement, Linde will invest approximately $1 billion to expand its existing industrial gas operations at the Phoenix site. The project represents one of the company’s largest investments globally for an electronics industry customer.
To meet growing demand, Linde will build, own, and operate two new SPECTRA® air separation units (ASUs) along with supporting infrastructure. These facilities will be added to the three ASUs already operating at the location.
The expansion will significantly increase the supply of ultra-high-purity nitrogen, oxygen, and argon, which are critical materials used in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The additional capacity will support the construction and operation of two new semiconductor fabrication plants, with the new ASUs utilizing Linde’s SPECTRA® technology to deliver the purity, reliability, and efficiency required for next-generation chip production.
In addition to its U.S. investment, Linde LienHwa, the company’s joint venture in Taiwan, has been selected by the same customer to provide industrial gases for new semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging facilities across multiple Taiwanese locations. Linde LienHwa plans to invest approximately $800 million in new air separation units and hydrogen production facilities to support these projects.

He noted that the company’s investments in Arizona and Taiwan highlight Linde’s ability to deliver the scale, reliability, and quality required by semiconductor manufacturers while strengthening long-term customer relationships worldwide.
