Micron Purchases PSMC’s Tongluo P5 Site
Retrofit work on the existing cleanroom will begin in March 202
Micron Technology has completed the acquisition of Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation’s (PSMC) P5 facility in Tongluo, Miaoli County, Taiwan, marking a significant step in the company’s global expansion strategy.
The newly acquired site will enhance Micron’s existing Taiwan operations, acting as an extension of its major manufacturing campus in Taichung, located roughly 15 miles away. The facility includes approximately 300,000 square feet of 300mm cleanroom space and will support increased production of advanced DRAM products, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM), as demand continues to rise due to artificial intelligence applications.
Following the completion of the deal, Micron has confirmed that retrofit work on the existing cleanroom will begin in March 2026, with the site expected to deliver meaningful product output starting in fiscal 2028. Looking ahead, the company also plans to construct a second cleanroom facility of similar scale, adding around 270,000 square feet, with construction targeted to begin by the end of fiscal 2026.
According to Manish Bhatia, Executive Vice President of Global Operations, the Tongluo facility will play a critical role in strengthening Micron’s ability to meet growing demand for memory solutions driven by AI and data-intensive technologies.
Micron also acknowledged the support of Taiwan’s government bodies, including the Ministry of Economic Affairs and local authorities, highlighting the strength of the region’s semiconductor ecosystem in enabling rapid development and execution.
As a global leader in memory and storage solutions, Micron continues to expand its manufacturing footprint to support the evolving demands of the data-driven economy, from data centres to edge computing and mobile applications.
