Tata Power plans 10GW ingot & wafer facility
The ingots and wafers plant will boost India’s domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependence for critical components.
Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) is planning to develop a new 10GW greenfield manufacturing facility for solar ingots and wafers in Andhra Pradesh, marking a major investment in India’s clean energy supply chain. The project, valued at Rs66.75bn (approximately $742m), will be located in Nellore and has received approval from the state’s Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
The facility is intended to boost India’s domestic manufacturing capacity and reduce dependence on imports for critical solar and semiconductor inputs. It will be established within the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone, where the Andhra Pradesh government has earmarked 200 acres of land. Of this, 120 acres will be used in the initial phase, with a further 80 acres reserved for future expansion.
Once operational, the plant is expected to generate around 1,000 direct jobs, alongside significant indirect employment during the construction phase and across supporting industries. To power the site sustainably, TPREL also plans to build a 200MW captive renewable energy plant dedicated to the facility’s operations.
This project represents TPREL’s first manufacturing investment in Andhra Pradesh and aligns with the company’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy footprint across the state.
Separately, TP Solar, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL, reported strong manufacturing output between April and December 2025, producing 2.8GW of domestic content requirement (DCR) solar cells and 2.9GW of solar modules. This included 2.4GW of DCR-compliant modules and 500MW of modules listed under India’s approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM).
TP Solar operates a 4.3GW solar cell and module facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, using advanced TOPCon and mono PERC technologies. In addition, TPREL commissioned NHPC’s flagship solar project at Karnisar Bhatiyan in Rajasthan in November last year.
