Dornan Celebrates Key Construction Milestone on Major Irish Data Centre Project
Dornan has reached a significant milestone on a major data centre development in Ireland, marking the occasion with a groundbreaking ceremony on 20 July 2026.
The company is serving as General Contractor on the approximately €48 million project, overseeing the complete civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical scope of works. The development brings together expertise from across Dornan’s business units to deliver a complex construction programme and associated infrastructure.
The groundbreaking event gathered project team members and key stakeholders to acknowledge the progress achieved so far and recognise the collaborative effort required to reach this important phase of the project.
Momentum continued shortly afterwards when structural steel installation commenced on 29 July, ahead of the original programme schedule. To celebrate the achievement, representatives from Dornan and the client addressed site personnel and subcontractors, expressing appreciation for their dedication and contribution. Team members also received lunch vouchers for the site canteen as a token of thanks for their ongoing commitment.
Brendan Herbert, Managing Director of Dornan’s Advanced Technology Division, said the milestone reflects the strong teamwork and expertise that have driven the project forward.
“The groundbreaking marks an important milestone for the project and is a great opportunity to recognise the commitment and collaboration of everyone involved. This project demonstrates the breadth of Dornan’s General Contracting capability and the expertise we bring together across multiple disciplines. We look forward to building on the progress made to date as we move into the next phase of delivery.”
Sustainability remains central to the development, which is targeting LEED Gold certification. The project team is also working alongside environmental and archaeological specialists to ensure that construction activities are carried out responsibly and with due regard for the surrounding area.
Dornan has also placed a strong emphasis on community engagement throughout the project. Through regular communication with local stakeholders, the team has sought to understand community requirements and, where possible, adapt construction activities to minimise disruption.
The achievement represents another important project milestone for Dornan’s Advanced Technology Division and highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering complex projects safely, sustainably and in close collaboration with clients, partners and local communities.
