Suffolk builds on semicon division with Clem Woods.

Suffolk leadership said the appointment reflects a deliberate strategy!

As momentum accelerates in the semiconductor and advanced technology sectors — driven in part by the U.S. reshoring push — Suffolk is strengthening its position with a senior leadership appointment.

The Boston-based contractor has named industry veteran Clem Wood as executive vice president of advanced technology, underscoring its ambition to expand in high-growth technology markets.

In his new role, Wood will lead Suffolk’s efforts across semiconductor fabrication, offsite manufacturing, electric vehicle and battery production, and precision manufacturing — sectors benefiting from renewed domestic investment in U.S.-based production.

Wood brings three decades of experience spanning design, offsite manufacturing and large-scale program management. Most recently, he served as principal and senior vice president of emerging markets at Ohio-based SSOE Group, where he worked closely with major global semiconductor manufacturers to shape engineering strategies and project delivery models.

Suffolk leadership said the appointment reflects a deliberate strategy to serve increasingly complex, highly specialised semiconductor and technology projects. The company has developed a dedicated roadmap to support chipmakers and advanced manufacturers investing in new U.S. facilities.

The semiconductor construction market remains robust, with multibillion-dollar projects underway nationwide. Among the most prominent is Micron’s planned $100 billion semiconductor megafab in New York — one of the largest private investments in U.S. manufacturing history.

However, the reshoring effort has faced challenges. Fluctuating trade policy and tariffs have created uncertainty around material pricing and construction costs, complicating planning for large-scale builds. Despite these headwinds, investment in semiconductor and advanced manufacturing infrastructure continues to expand as companies seek to strengthen domestic supply chains.
